A Message from Father Don:
Beloved:
We have two special spiritual events in February. Bishop Keyser will be with us on Feb.12th at 11AM for the sacrament of confirmation for Jackie-Jo Brinson, Laine Fletcher, J.R. (Bubba) Wilson and we'll receive Joe Joyce from the Roman Catholic church. Bishop Keyser is the retired bishop of the armed forces and now assists Bishop Howard in our diocese. Please make every effort to be present for this special service and reception. (right 2012 confirmands)
The second special thing is the beginning of Lent on February 22nd. The liturgy of Ash Wednesday is especially challenging in matters of self-awareness and relationship with God. I ask that you make plans to have this be a spiritually productive time for you. To help in this regard, we will have special Wednes-day evening programs beginning on February 29th. The subject will be the travels of St. Paul with televised documentary style visits to each location. Fr. Hinchliffe will be the leader for these programs. The Daughters of the King are organizing the suppers which will precede each presentation. I am very pleased to tell you that our website is back up and running. You may access it by going to www.stlukesliveoak.org. Much more content will be added in the near future. The Gazette will be published there each month as well as in print.

***Five members of the St. Luke’s Senior High Youth Group joined the youth from five other churches in the Diocese of Florida on the 1st Annual Diocesan Ski Trip. One hundred and twenty-two youth plus adult chaperones traveled in three buses to Ghent, WV to ski and snow tube over the Martin Luther King Holiday. Not only did everyone have a great time, but had the opportunity to worship and participate in fellowship together. Hopefully this will be the first of many such trips. Our youth now turn their attentions to plan-ning a mission trip to Cuba in the future.
WARM GREETINGS FROM MRS. ELIZABETH AND MRS. ROBIN!
The youth group has enjoyed the past four weeks learning about Jesus’ miracles and is excited to begin exploration about baptism! Please join us as we take the next five Sundays (beginning February 5th) to study From John the Baptist Until Now. The first five sessions of this unit are devoted to the origin of baptism, the Baptis-mal Covenant, and the service itself as the Church's rite of initiation.
Session 1:
―The Baptism of Jesus will help us to understand the sacrament as its beginning.
Session 2:
―Baptism and Our Belief focuses on the three faith questions of the Baptismal Covenant.
Session 3:
―Baptism and Our Livingis devoted to the five action questions of the Covenant.
Session 4:
―Baptized by Water and the Spirit is centered on the prayer of thanksgiving over the water.
Session 5:
―Receiving the Newly Baptized is devoted the words of welcome at the end of the service.
