Empowered by the Holy Spirit, our vision as The Order of the Daughters of the King® (DOK) Daughters of the King® is to know Jesus Christ, is a spiritual sisterhood of women dedicated to a to make Him known to others, and to become life of Prayer, Service and Evangelism. We have reflections of God’s love throughout the world. made a commitment to Jesus as our Savior, and we follow Him as Lord of our lives.

Matthew 25: 34-40 34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ 37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ 40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

Our Daughters Are Back from Cuba
The Daughter's of the King enjoyed an evening with a Cinco de Maya menu and we listened to the stories our members brought back from their recent trip to Cuba. We were so excited to learn of another DOK Chapter in Cuba in Los Arabos. These women have been daughters for 15 years and they did not know other chapters were near them. We will be supporting the Los Arabos chapter in prayer and contributions. The chapter from Felis de Jesus showered us with many gifts and we all went home with something made by their hands.

History

It was founded in 1885 by Margaret J. Franklin in New York City. A Daughter pledges herself to a life of daily prayer, service and evangelism. She is dedicated to the spread of Christ’s Kingdom and the of the spiritual life of the Parish. Because of this vow, daughters refer to themselves as an order, not an organization.

St. Luke’s founded their chapter on November 1, 2001 and it is called the Charismata Chapter. At the institution, St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church in High Springs presented Charismata with a beautiful Crocheted banner that hangs in our sanctuary today. Sister Maria Ann and Gail Mickel were Charismata chapter’s first and second presidents.

The Daughters pray this prayer regularly and it serves as The Motto of the Order: For His Sake … I am but one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. What I can do, I ought to do. What I ought to do, by the grace of God I will do. Lord, what will you have me do?

***To continue,  with a little DOK history and trivia, The Order of the Daughters of the King was birthed in a time when all Christians in America were responding to the call for “concerts of prayer” for revival of religion and the advancement of God’s Kingdom on earth. This movement brought millions of converts into the Church and it tied the Gospel with social work in a way that had not been seen in the U.S. before. It brought a new commitment to prayer, to service and to evangelism. The Order was formed in the expectation that it could bring Christ’s light to the world. And since 1885 Daughters of the King have been shining!

Have you noticed that the daughters all wear an unusual looking silver cross? It is the emblem of the Order in the form of a modified Greek Fleury Cross (that’s a cross with petals or flowers on the ends). “Magnanimiter Cucem Sutine” is inscribed, meaning “With heart, mind and spirit uphold and bear the cross.” At the base of the cross are the letters “FHS,” initials that stand for the Motto of the Order: “For His Sake.” The vision of a Daughter of the King is to know Jesus Christ, to make Him known to others, and to become reflections of God’s love throughout the world. Now just imagine the impact that 30,000 Daughters - praying in concerts of prayer and serving together - are having.

February Meeting:

The Daughters of the King met February 7 in the parish hall.  President Lydia Bush shared bookmarks from the DoK headquarters which were inscribed with our vision statement and motto:  “For His Sake, I am but one, But I am one.  I cannot do everything, But I can do something.  What I can do, I ought to do.  What I ought to do, By the grace of God I will do.  Lord, what will YOU have me do?”

Rose Decker provided information about the saints and holy days of February which included the Feast of the Presentation when Jesus was presented to the Temple, Martin Luther, Bishop Polycarp, and  Matthias, the Apostle chosen after Jesus' death.  Lydia announced that Jackie Kent would be inducted into DoK at the 9 a.m. service on February 19.  We will be helping with the Lenten Wednesday Suppers beginning February 29.

Upcoming events include our parish Quiet Day on March 31 in which we will be studying The Lord and His Prayer by N. T. Wright.  Our next meeting will be March 6 at 6 p.m.  All ladies of the church are welcome to attend our meetings.

New DoK member:

On February 19, Jackie Kent was inducted into the membership of Daughters of the King.  Welcome, Jackie!
